RESC MTR Alliance
The Regional Education Service Center Minority Teacher Recruiting (RESC MTR) Alliance was established by a Connecticut General Assembly statute and is a collaborative of the six Connecticut Regional Education Service Centers and the public districts they serve. In the past, with funding from the General Assembly, the RESC MTR Alliance received allocations as directed from the state Department of Education.
Our stated purpose under the General Assembly statute is:
To encourage minority middle- and secondary-school students to attend institutions of higher education and enter teacher preparation programs.
To recruit minority students attending institutions of higher education to enroll in teacher preparation programs and pursue teacher careers.
To recruit and retain minority teachers in Connecticut schools.
Funding for the RESC Alliance action plans was cut, so as of July limited work on these goals has been undertaken by the RESC Alliance. Click here to view a presentation that outlined prior work of the RESC MTR Alliance.
In lieu of that, based on the recommendations of a statewide task force on minority teacher recruitment, a public act that was approved by the Connecticut legislature in 2018. It puts in place a task force and new procedures that impact hiring, certification and other issues that have been barriers to increasing the number of minority educators in Connecticut.
