Seventh-graders visit renowned art museum
Seventh-graders traveled to Hartford on Jan. 9, 2020, to visit the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Students applied their interdisciplinary experiences from Visual Arts, Social Studies, and Language Arts classes while touring the museum, which was founded in 1842 and houses nearly 50,000 works of art that span 5,000 years. They were thoughtfully engaged with a docent, who talked to them about the rich details in the art. Students then took part in a studio program and learned observational drawing techniques (contour and block sketching) as they drew ancient objects in sketchbooks provided by the Wadsworth.
Admission to the museum was a prize won in a raffle at the museum by teacher Sabine Januski and transportation to Hartford was provided by the C.E.S. Foundation, which supports the Cooperative Educational Services school programs, including Six to Six, with grants to enhance educational opportunities like the Wadsworth field trip.
