14th annual run and walk benefits CES schools and programs
Runners and walkers enjoyed a beautiful morning at Bridgeport's Seaside Park on Saturday, Oct. 16, for the 14th annual CES 5K Fall Classic. The run and walk raises funds that go toward the schools and programs at Cooperative Educational Services.
Anthony Chowanec of Bridgeport was the top finisher with a time of 19:27. Lauren Flament was the top female finisher at 20:47. Both have won the CES race in previous years. All of the runners battled a strong wind coming off Long Island Sound on the last half of the race and finished strong.
One of the runners, Michelle Puskar of East Hampton, hit a milestone when she completed the course. She ran with members of the Run 169 Towns Society, a running group that aims to run races in every Connecticut town, and the CES race in Bridgeport was her 169th, a feat that she said took several years to complete.
Platinum-level sponsors for the 2021 race are Gallagher Insurance and Consulting and People's United Bank. Other sponsors and donors are Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) of Hamden, Bagel King of Bridgeport, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo of Bridgeport, the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk, Sacred Heart University Athletics Department, and W.B. Mason.
