Maria Morabito Hired as C.E.S. Special Education Developmental Learning Center Administrator

Maria Morabito has been selected to serve as the new Developmental Learning Center (DLC) program administrator at the Cooperative Educational Services Special Education school in Trumbull, CT.

“Our interview team was very impressed with Maria’s administrative experience as well as her insights and perspective about working in a program like DLC,” explained Tony Maida, Director of C.E.S. Special Education. “She clearly possesses the communication and leadership competencies we were seeking in a candidate for this position.”

Ms. Morabito’s predecessor, Steve Culbertson, announced his resignation effective June 30, 2011 earlier this year. He will begin in a new position within the Trumbull Public Schools district in July.

“It’s an honor to join the Developmental Learning Center at C.E.S.,” stated Ms. Morabito. “As the new program administrator, I plan to make sure everyone on staff continues to work together and stays focused on the strengths our students have.”

Since 2008, Ms. Morabito has served as assistant director of pupil services at Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) and assistant principal at Thomas Edison Magnet Middle School (an ACES magnet school). Prior to her work at ACES, she served as an extended school year PreK-12 administrator in the Wilton Public Schools for 13 years.

“I look forward to working together with staff, parents and community to bring to life a great curriculum,” explained Morabito, “one that is functional and focuses on assisting students to become as independent as possible in domestic, community and vocational settings.”

Ms. Morabito holds Connecticut state certifications in intermediate administration, school counseling and special education. She holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Special Education and a Master’s degree in school counseling from Fairfield University.

C.E.S. The Developmental Learning Center serves students with a wide range of developmental disabilities. Using the SCERTS model, the program is designed to facilitate the transition from school to adult life.
